Helping people for the sake of helping is a wonderful goal in and of itself, but you do still need to eat to survive. Diyero's pretty practical in that aspect. He doesn't require a fee, but if he's in need of supplies, he doesn't feel bad requesting some aid from a grateful village if he knows they can spare it.

The map appears yet again! I don't think it does again for quite some time, though. Somewhere around Chapter 14 of this book, I think.
