The mark on Diyero's forehead is The Eye of Atatu. There are four main "tribes" of Duendo, each with their countless sub-tribes. For Atatu tribes like Diyero's, the Eye of Atatu represents their founder god's watchful eye over them and symbolizes inner strength, wisdom, courage, and good fortune. Often, it is painted on the forehead of boys before their coming-of-age hunt like Diyero has here. It's also a popular design in wedding-palm tattoos.

The shaman makes the final common use of it in panel 4 by forming the symbol with his fingers. When created using one's hand, the Eye of Atatu is sort of like a "good luck" gesture, and is generally signaled to anybody venturing out into danger, such as a special hunt or into battle.
